Delicious Korean BBQ Taco Box Goodness

June 28th, 2011 by REW Blog Team

Ok, so I admit it…

We’re a little late to the game. The Orlando Food Truck craze has been going on for quite some time now and we’re just starting to notice. As the member of REW’s web-development team who keeps us connected with social media and local trends, I hope REW didn’t miss the boat on this one.

I’ve been following the Food Truck phenomena for a little while now on Twitter and have been reading everything there is on the subject at EatLocalOrlando and TheDailyCity. I’ve got to say that both sites are great resources for anyone who wants to know more about the food-truck craze that’s sweeping over Orlando. Yes, I was one one of those ignorant people that thought food-trucks were reserved for larger cities like D.C., New York, or Los Angeles. I was wrong, and have come to realize that Orlando has just as much-if not more- to offer in terms of delicious street fare.

Last Friday…

I decided stop by and visit a food-truck on my way home from work. You know, just to see what all the fuss was about. I checked twitter to see who would be the most convenient and saw that the Korean BBQ Taco Box (@koreanbbq_2011) was just up the street. All I can say is holy crap it was delicious. Just check out the pic above. The price was right and the food was cooked to order and amazing. I’m now a true believer in Food Trucks.

While I haven’t been yet, I fully plan on attending the next event on TheDailyCity.com’s Food Truck Bazaar Summer Series schedule as well as the weekly Food pod at Lake Lily in Maitland. I’m on a mission to eat at every food truck in the city.

If you own or operate a food truck in Orlando and you’re reading this, get with me on twitter (@REWonline). In the very near future, I would love to come out and talk to you about your food truck operation. We can make a quick video and upload it to youtube, or I can write up an article about your food/story for our blog. No sales pitches, I promise.

June 2011 Hatco Training in Sturgeon Bay, WI

Ok, so the weather in Green Bay isn’t that great right now. I guess that’s just our sense of “weather superiority” as Floridians coming through a little. This image of the sacred ground that is know as Lambeau Field was sent to us by a REW employee that was lucky enough to get away from the office for a little while and attend some great training sessions in Sturgeon Bay, WI put on by our friends at Hatco.

Keep checking back with us for more photos of the excursion and some great information on the extensive line of Hatco products.

Celebrity pastry chef Gale Gand to lead flash mob at NRA Show 2011

May 13th, 2011 by REW Blog Team

By Derrek J. Hull, Blogger-in-Chief Floored!

Pastry Chef Gale Gand and choreographer Austin Lim demonstrate the dance moves.

You may remember from last year that hundreds of restaurant industry folks came together to celebrate the industry in the form of the first-ever restaurant and hospitality industry flash mob.

Well this year, the 2011 National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show is making the dance bigger and better and want invites restaurant and foodservice professionals to join celebrity executive pastry chef, best-selling author and TV personality Gale Gand to bust a move and show the world the restaurant industry is worth dancing for.

The originally choreographed flash mob – set to Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” – was created by choreographer Austin Lim of CODA exclusively for NRA show 2011. The routine is available on the NRA Show Web site and also available on YouTube for NRA Show and International Wine, Spirits & Beer Event (IWSB) attendees who wish to learn it participate.

A special practice session will be available at-Show on Tuesday, May 24 at 9:30 a.m. in room N427 BCD at Chicago’s McCormick Place. Note: an NRA Show 2011 or IWSB badge is required to access McCormick Place during the event.

Journalists and food/restaurant bloggers may receive press badges for the NRA Show and IWSB with proper credentials onsite in the Press Center, room N226.

If you’re not already registered to attend NRA Show 2011 or IWSB, visit www.restaurant.org/show or www.winespiritsbeer.org to register.

Brad Pierce, President of Restaurant Equipment World, Testifies Before the United States Senate

October 10th, 2009 by REW Blog Team

Testimony of Brad Pierce, President of
Restaurant Equipment World ™ (A Pierce Sales Co., Inc.)
at the hearing by the
Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation,
and Export Promotion of the Commerce Committee
United States
Senate
October 6, 2009

On Tuesday, October 6, 2009, Brad Pierce, President of Orlando based Restaurant Equipment World ™ testified before a United States Senate Subcommittee in Washington, D.C. regarding increasing global export trade for small businesses.  Over the past several years, Pierce has grown his export business substantially which now accounts for more than 30% of his company’s annual sales volume and spans more than 100 countries internationally.  While Pierce has accomplished this without the aid of government assistance, he certainly is interested in programs the government has available to help him increase his and other small businesses’ export volumes.  Pierce stated, “There are 24 million small businesses which create approximately 80% of the new jobs in this country.  In this troubled economy I see how much our business has been aided by exports, to not only survive, but to grow as a business.  I would certainly like to see other companies benefit in this same manner.”  The content of his speech and subsequent question and answer session with numerous Senators and other government officials continued to drive home the importance of increased global exports for small businesses.  He concluded his testimony by stating, “I truly believe that as partners with the US government working hand in hand together, we can certainly increase our export trade.  This will save U.S. jobs, provide an increase in revenue, help for us to recover faster from the current economic downturn, and make us stronger as a nation.”  Pierce was testifying on behalf of the National Federation of Independent Businesses at the invitation of United States Senator George LeMieux of Florida.

Restaurant Equipment World ™ (A Pierce Sales Co., Inc.) is an industry leading dealer of commercial restaurant equipment and supplies.  They are a family owned company based in Orlando, Florida and have approximately 45 employees.  Over the past 33 years, the company has sold goods to more than 75,000 customers in all 50 states and more than 100 countries internationally.  The company was the first in their industry to embrace the e-commerce market more than 13 years ago and currently operates a network more than 200 online websites dedicated to foodservice equipment and supplies.  The company’s online catalog available at www.REWonline.com boasts over 26,000 products from more than 200 manufacturers.
